I want to apply for an Award, how can I do this?

Applications are not open for 2017 yet. So watch this space!


Can I apply for more than one Award?

Applicants may only apply for one category! Click here to find out more about the different Awards and their criteria.


What are the criteria to enter?

Those who are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of Pacific descent, and aged between 17-24 years at the time applications. Check out our Terms & Conditions for full entry criteria.


If I applied for an Award last year, can I apply again?

Yes, you can apply more than once for the relevant award, if you have not previously been a winner.


Can I apply for an Award if I'm currently residing overseas?

Sure, you can enter for any category as long as you prove that you are a New Zealand citizen or resident and you fit the criteria and haven’t previously won an Award. You will also need to sort out your own airfare to travel to New Zealand if you are selected as a finalist.


Can I still apply if I don’t have any Pacific lineage?

The Prime Minister’s Pacific Youth Awards (PMPYA) are for young Pacific New Zealanders only.

Why does the Prime Minister run these Awards?

The Prime Minister's Pacific Youth Awards recognise and reward high-achieving young Pacific New Zealanders, who will play a growing part in the New Zealand of the future. These awards are designed to motivate, celebrate and inspire young Pacific people.

How do I know my application has been accepted?

You will receive a confirmation email at the email address you provided on your application. If you do not receive the confirmation email, please remember to check your spam folders. Otherwise, email us at pmpya@mpp.govt.nz and we'll follow up your application for you. 

Do I have to provide supporting documents with my application?

Yes. Applicants are required to provide two written references of 250 words each to support applications.

How can I remove my application?

You can write or email us with the subject 'withdraw my application' if you wish to remove your application. Include your request, name and details and our project team will be in touch.

When are the finalists/recipients announced?

Recipients will be announced at the PMPYA celebration in November and published online the next day.
