The Ministry for Pacific Peoples (MPP) Tupu Aotearoa programme has successfully helped more than 4000 Pacific people into employment or training since it was established in 2010 (as the Pacific Employment Support Service).
It currently works with 12 providers across the country to deliver the programme. In February, two new service providers, Quality Education Centre (QES) and Workwise Employment Ltd, were welcomed into the Tupu Aotearoa fold to help us keep delivering these great results.
They join three providers to specifically deliver in the Auckland region – InWork NZ Limited, SENZ Charitable Trust and Solomon Group.
Last Tuesday, MPP hosted a Capability Development Workshop for QES and Workwise staff and managers.
Working alongside the Tupu Aotearoa team, the new providers learnt more about the programme, particularly the Tupu Aotearoa database and related reporting systems and processes.
Head of Social Services for QES Kerry Tautogia says the workshop answered a lot of questions and ticked boxes for the QES team.
Meanwhile, Workwise Business Support Manager Moana McCabe says the workshop has been highly informative.
“It’s has been great working with MPP and QES,” she adds.
Tupu Aotearoa is a free Pacific employment and training offering, focused on helping another 3500 Pacific people into training, education, or employment over the next two years.
The Ministry’s Tupu Aotearoa Manager (Auckland) Jae Stowers says the programme is now open to all Pacific people.
“Following Budget 2020 approval, age eligibility has changed, and the programme no longer has an upper age barrier, so it is open to reach more of our Pacific people,” Jae says.
The success of the Tupu Aotearoa programme has resulted in a further expansion of the programme, increasing the number of people eligible in Auckland, Wellington and Canterbury (both opening soon), as well as in the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Manawatu/Whanganui, Hawkes Bay, Otago and Southland regions. This has been funded by the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE) since July 2019, through the Provincial Growth Fund.
In addition, two new regions, Northland and Nelson-Marlborough-Tasman are expected to run the programme before the end of the year.

In our efforts to assist more Pacific individuals in New Zealand to find employment and training, the Ministry for Pacific Peoples Tupu Aotearoa programme continues to be expanded throughout the regions.
Request For Proposals (RFPs) for Service Providers to facilitate Tupu Aotearoa in the Northland and Nelson-Marlborough-Tasman regions will be published on the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) website at 12pm, July 6, 2020.
