Improved work, health and education outcomes is the aim of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s (MBIE) refresh of two important strategies which support refugees and migrants to Aotearoa, including Pacific peoples.
The Ministry is currently refreshing its New Zealand Refugee Resettlement Strategy and New Zealand Migrant Settlement and Integration Strategy, which were implemented about 10 years ago.
Things have changed since then, so MBIE is working to update them and ensure they effectively support successful settlement in the future.
Feedback is being sought from the public, especially from those who are affected, or know someone who is affected.
There are three opportunities for you to have your say:
Share your experiences at an engagement session, what settlement looks like, what works and what does not, and what should change.
2. Complete the Settlement Strategy questionnaire
You can fill in a questionnaire, which covers similar topics as the engagement sessions. It is available in English and other languages from mid-July to early August.
3. Participate in a co-design workshop
Using what you tell us at the engagement sessions and questionnaires, we will be running co-design workshops in five locations across Aotearoa New Zealand in late August:
At the workshops, we will work together to develop recommendations to government.

By participating, people can be part of the discussions from the start.
The MBIE team want to make sure the outcomes are right for those affected, and recommendation are based on real-life experiences and the aspirations of communities.
Participation is completely voluntary, and responses will be kept anonymous.
