Tupou Veiogo

Deloitte Commercial and Corporate Award

Fijian, 20, from Palmerston North

For Tupou Veiogo, winning the Deloitte Commercial and Corporate category at the 2019 Prime Minister’s Pacific Youth Awards is reward for the positive attitude and excellent work ethic he approaches life with.

The 20-year-old was born and raised in Fiji and is currently studying Accounting at Massey University, in Palmerston North.

In just his second year of study, Tupou has achieved academic success, receiving a Certificate of Excellence in Intermediate Financial Accounting.

Tupou has also been given the opportunity to intern with local audit firm Cotton Kelly Services; and he has been involved in supporting the Massey Pasifika Club Association as an Executive, as well as contributing to their cultural events and festivals.

Winning the Commercial and Corporate Award means Tupou will receive a paid internship in Wellington or Auckland with Deloitte, valued at $10,000, which will help him achieve his aspiration to become an Accountant and provide assistance to the Pacific community, he says.

“I believe I’ve been working hard and have had a positive attitude since my education journey began in New Zealand at Palmerston North Boys’ High and now at Massey University and this award recognises that,” Tupou says.

Tupou is excited about interning at the globally recognised Deloitte, and building his accounting and problem-solving skills while he gains valuable work experience and exposure to a professional setting.

“This award will also support me in my intention to secure a future and career in New Zealand,” he adds.

“It is a prestigious and significant award which is truly a blessing … I hope it can inspire others at home in Fiji to see anything is possible if you work hard, believe, stay focused and are determined to do it.”
