The Ministry for Pacific Peoples has published the Delivering for Pacific Communities Strategy, marking an important step in setting clear priorities for improving outcomes for Pacific peoples across Aotearoa New Zealand.
This three-year Delivering for Pacific Communities Strategy delivers on the Government’s priorities for Pacific communities and provides a clear roadmap for action. It builds on the foundations of Lalanga Fou and the Pacific Wellbeing Strategy, alongside insights gathered through public consultation.
It affirms that the priority areas the Ministry has been focusing on (economic growth, health, housing, education, and law and order) are the same priorities Pacific communities value most.
Consultation held in September and October confirmed strong support for these priority areas. Much of the detailed feedback focused on the lived experiences of Pacific peoples and the barriers and challenges encountered in everyday life, rather than on altering the Strategy’s strategic intent. The Ministry will use these insights to inform future work.
Secretary for Pacific Peoples, Gerardine Clifford-Lidstone, says the Strategy reflects both Government priorities and the aspirations of Pacific peoples.
“This Strategy gives us a clear direction for the next three years, working together across government while keeping Pacific values at the centre,” she noted.
The Strategy also sets out how these priorities will be delivered. It identifies practical actions for the Ministry, including developing and sharing quality data and insights, fostering strong relationships with Pacific communities and stakeholders, investing in local Pacific-led solutions, and working closely with government agencies, championing Pacific values, and leveraging advances in technology.
“We are grateful for the feedback from our communities and appreciate the time and effort they gave to this process,” says Gerardine.
