A growing number of Pacific students around New Zealand are saying “yes” to being involved in the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) and gaining entrepreneurial skills.
As part of the YES programme, students set up and run a real business, and each YES company creates their product or service and gets to experience what it is like to go to market.
Nationwide, there are 485 Pacific students participating in YES within 92 Pacific companies this year.
In the coming weeks and months, the Ministry for Pacific Peoples (MPP) will support the Pacific companies by showcasing Pacific companies involved in YES.
This will help boost the teams’ profiles and hopefully help turn followers into customers of Pacific companies’ YES products.
Meet Pacific enterprise Corona Busters, from Mangere College.
The Corona Busters team consists of Chief Executive Officer Olathe Taumihau; Finance Directors Anasta Manukuo and Ofa Toluono; Marketing Director Sapela Tiava’asu’e; Production Managers Eneleata Pulemau and Rozlyn Tikinau; and Communications Manager Amelia Fehoko, who are all studying towards NCEA Level 3 at Mangere College, in South Auckland.
All team members share the common goal of wanting to promote and sell their business product to the best of their abilities.
The team are currently creating facemasks in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, as a preventative measure.
While New Zealand is currently Covid-19 free in the community, the team hope to instil an understanding that people need to be cautionary and prepared for unexpected health crises which may hit the country in the future.
