New Zealand’s list of trailblazing women in the area of governance is rapidly growing.
Director of Elika Consulting Group, admitted Barrister and Solicitor to the High Court of New Zealand and musician, Sara Jane Elika sits on that list and says initiatives such as the Women in Governance Awards is urging her Pacific peers to join her.
The Women in Governance Awards celebrate innovation, excellence, creativity and commitment to diversity by both organisations and individuals.
In 2017, Sara Jane, who is of Samoan heritage, was the recipient of the Emerging Leader Award.
The award has given her confidence to continue leading with passion and conviction, and she encourages people to apply for this year’s awards, taking place on June 4, at the Auckland Hilton Hotel.
This year, for the first time, the Ministry for Pacific Peoples is sponsoring the Pacific Governance Leader Award, which recognises a Pacific woman who is an experienced and reputable governance leader at a regional or a national level.
Governance New Zealand Chief Executive Linda Noble says there are so many women in the community who are trailblazing in the area of governance.
“We know how hard it is for women to put themselves forward and are making the application process as easy as possible,” she says.
“Pacific women should apply because they deserve the recognition this award offers, and they will be a role model for other Pacific women to follow.”
The award has been established after the Women on Boards Executive Committee recognised in order to represent diversity, there needed to be awards which reflected New Zealand’s diverse community, Linda adds.
This Award category is only open to women who identify as being of Pacific ethnicity and the nominee can represent any field and industry sector.
