New Zealand, we have stamped out Covid-19 before and together, we can do it again.
This is the message from the New Zealand Government as it moved Auckland into alert level three after community transmission was confirmed there last week.
The rest of the country was moved into alert level two.
New Zealand’s Government is taking a prompt response to break the chain of transmission through contact tracing, testing, and gathering of information.
It is paramount for the Ministry for Pacific Peoples (MPP) to protect and support Pacific communities and their wellbeing throughout this period.
A New Zealand Pacific campaign has been prompted and is being rolled out by MPP and our partners, including: Bright Sunday, SunPix, Tagata Pasifika, Pacific Media Network, Good Morning Tonga, and Radio Samoa.
As part of our campaign, videos have been created and circulated on MPP’s Facebook page, YouTube channel, Twitter account, LinkedIn and website, as well as the Pacific Aotearoa Facebook page and Instagram account, featuring the latest key messages on Covid-19 in New Zealand.
These videos are filmed in our nine Pacific languages - Vosa Vakaviti, Te taetae ni Kiribati, Vagahau Niue, Te Reo Māori Kuki ‘Āirani, Fäeag Rotųam, Gagana Samoa, Te Gagana Tokelau, Lea Faka Tonga, and Te Gana Tuvalu and English.
Key messages include current restrictions which apply and where you can find testing stations.
We will also be starting our Pacific influencers campaign - We got your back Aotearoa – featuring some well-known Pacific people in New Zealand.
These influencers will share some insights and key messages to help protect Pacific communities from Covid-19.
Additionally, a 29-minute special programme will screen on TVNZ 1 today (Monday, August 17) at 430pm, focusing on Sela Alo’s journey of surviving Covid-19.
Key information and messages will also be disseminated on our social media platforms and e-newsletter to keep Pacific communities informed, which is a priority for MPP at this time.
In the meantime, remember to practice good hygiene, stay at home if you are sick, and to be kind. We have done this before, and we can do it again.
