The Pacific Public Servants Network is excited to announce its first Zoom fono of 2024.
Scheduled for 15 February, from 12pm to 1pm, the virtual fono is a significant platform for empowering Pacific peoples working across the public sector.
Pacific peoples make up about nine percent of New Zealand’s public service and are predominantly younger than their non-Pacific counterparts.
The network, founded in 2020, unites members across various agencies to forge a stronger Pacific community across government.
Some of the core aims of the network include addressing Pacific underrepresentation in leadership, promoting career progression, advocating for pay transparency, and championing equity.
The Secretary for Pacific Peoples Gerardine will head the line-up of speakers for the first 2024 virtual fono, emphasising the network’s commitment and purpose.
“We want to ensure all our Pacific public servants, from the centre to the frontline, have access to opportunities to grow in their careers,” Gerardine says.
Co-chairs of the network Helen Karati and Alana Fasavalu will take centre stage along with Te Tohu mō te Kaiārahi Rangatahi o te Tau - Young Leader of the Year Saunoa (Noa) Samasoni.
Also sharing their insights, will be Tupu Tai interns Okirano Tilaia and Tanumia Matega, currently interning at MPP, who will discuss their research on Pacific leadership pathways in the Public Service.
