Measles is now in the community in New Zealand. Measles is a highly contagious disease that can be life threatening. Measles is caused by a virus and is easily preventable with immunisation.

Measles, mumps and rubella can all be very serious illnesses, but measles is particularly dangerous. It can lead to pneumonia, brain infection and sometimes death, and it spreads very quickly.
