If you've been impacted by flooding or storm damage and need assistance, please visit Severe Weather Event and flooding | Auckland Emergency Management.
The Local State of Emergency for Auckland has now ended and a local transition period is now in place for 28 days. This allows a seamless transition from the emergency response phase to the recovery phase. It provides Auckland Emergency Management with the powers they may need such as cleaning roads and carrying out remedial works.
Severe thunderstorms were felt across the Auckland region last night, with reports of further flooding. Please visit the MetService website for further severe weather updates and stay safe.

Many Aucklanders are back at work and school following yesterday’s heavy rain and flooding, while many damaged properties have already been visited by Auckland Council assessors. According to Auckland Emergency Management, the council is working quickly to identify any damage to buildings, unstable ground and any other potential hazards and take action to reduce any risks.
Auckland remains in a State of Local Emergency and Rapid Building Assessments are underway following yesterday’s heavy rain and widespread flooding.
All Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Warnings for Auckland and Aotea Great Barrier Island have now been lifted. The worst of the weather has now passed, however, rain can still be expected, so visit MetService for further updates. Please keep away from waterways and flood waters.
A number of Civil Defence Centres and shelters remain open around the Tāmaki Makaurau area.
Some Auckland Transport services and roads have been impacted by the weather which is causing delays across the network. Please take care when travelling and check live departures before your journey, flood waters may take time to recede even if rain has stopped.

Auckland Council has issued a list of Civil Defence Centres and Shelters that are open around the Tāmaki Makaurau area.
Waka Kotahi has closed SH10 between Omaunu Road and Whangaroa, as flooding starts to hit the far north.
Hamilton City Council has asked people to limit their travel, stay safe on the roads, and watch for surface flooding.
Public transport in Auckland is being impacted by flooding. Advice from Auckland Transport is to check Live Departures and the AT app for the latest on affected services.
Auckland Council has advised to plan your travel carefully, as they are expecting widespread surface flooding across the region. Never drive into flood waters. They are also warning of potential landslides. Properties next to, above or below properties affected by existing landslides may be at increased risk of further landslides.
According to Waka Kotahi Auckland, flooding is blocking some parts of the South Eastern Hwy and #SH1.
Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown has declared a State of Local Emergency for Auckland.
Te Manawa Library in Westgate has opened as a fully operational Civil Defence Centre, providing stretcher beds, blankets, food, water, welfare support and psychosocial support.

MetService has issued several severe weather warnings for the Upper North Island, including severe thunderstorm and heavy rain warnings. Please keep an eye on MetService and stay away from flooded areas.

Civil Defence has issued an emergency alert for Auckland

An Emergency Mobile Alert was issued by Auckland Emergency Management just after noon on Tuesday, 9 May, in response to a severe weather system moving across Auckland and Northern parts of the country.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are affecting the Auckland region plus Aotea Great Barrier Island, and are expected to continue through to midnight tonight.

The declaration applies to the entire Auckland region.
